Base64 Encoder & Decoder

Encode text to Base64 or decode Base64 back to text. Supports Unicode and UTF-8 characters including emoji.

Important: Base64 is an encoding scheme, not encryption. It converts binary data into a text representation using 64 printable ASCII characters. It does not provide confidentiality or security. Anyone can decode Base64 data. Do not use Base64 to protect sensitive information.

How to use this tool

  1. Select Encode or Decode mode.
  2. Enter your text (to encode) or Base64 string (to decode) in the input area.
  3. Click Convert to see the result.
  4. Use Swap to reverse the operation and swap input/output.

This tool uses TextEncoder and TextDecoder for correct Unicode/UTF-8 handling, rather than relying on btoa()/atob() alone (which only support Latin-1 characters).

Frequently asked questions

Yes. The tool encodes text as UTF-8 bytes before Base64 encoding, which correctly handles emoji, accented characters, CJK characters, and other Unicode text.

The input may contain invalid Base64 characters or may not be a valid Base64 string. Valid Base64 uses only A–Z, a–z, 0–9, +, /, and = (for padding). The decoded bytes may also not form valid UTF-8 text if the original data was binary.
